The Death of a Device

Just when I thought things could go no wrong, my PDA died on me. My palm Zire 71 which I bought to aid me organize my life, carry electronic notes and to fill my ears with music of curious nature decided it was time to say its goodbye.

Initially I thought it was my PDA charger that was at fault. Ever since it’s dramatic fall off my father’s computer table the charger it seems has never been the same. Infact after the accident I had to move my PDA slightly out of position on the cradle to charge it, a minor inconvenience made only bearable by my patience.

Anyway after a slight negligence on my part I decided on Thursday to update my journal on my PDA which I have been chronologing since my tethering entry to the army forces. When I tried to switch on my PDA it simply wouldn’t start up. I thought the battery had depleted and I tried putting the PDA onto the cradle to charge it. But to my horror nothing happened.

It was then I decided to call my friend Michelle to help me check whether my PDA was truly beyond the greens. We met at Admiralty and after checking my PDA she broke the news to me. Somehow I knew what she was going to tell me.

She told me my PDA was dead. I think I chuckled and tried hide my disbelief although I knew it was true. I just didn’t want to hear it. After all, its not everyday I lose a PDA which by the way I took so many months to painfully pay off with my pocket money.

Since I hate to dwell on dead things, we had our late dinner, said our goodbyes and parted ways. It was very thoughtful of her to meet me so late at night and help out an old buddy. She even showed me her wonderful photographs and I can’t believe her laptop still looks brand new. It goes to show that girls do keep things in nice and neat conditions.

Well I have always tried to keep things in its proper condition but the world around me doesn’t cooperate and I often and I meant mostly end up with things dusty and scratch ridden.

Anyway the most irritable thing about this whole scenario is upon checking on the Palm website it is stated that it would cost me $215 to repair my PDA, which is $10 less than the cheapest new Palm model on the market right now.

I decided not to repair my PDA because it can and will fail in the future. I have decided I would just get a small diary to schedule and record my occasional rumblings. Besides its way cheaper and thankfully I always had a love for writing.

With my PDA officially dead, it brings with it my list of expenditures, intimate thoughts, horrendous sketches of my bother and most notably my notes on various personal projects. Well almost.

See folks, I never trust electronic devices. I always make backups for I am certain all things powered by electricity are doom to die.

So till my next post ya, its bye from Ganz.

No use crying over spilled milk or mourning for the dead. Life goes on.

I was just irritated when PDA died. But now that I have written about it, I can carry on. I am all smiles now.

And thanks for your help and concern. Really appreciate it.

Cheers!
