Triple Action

I thought I would take a break from all my self studies and nonsensical daily routines to watch a few movies on my portable DVD player. I mananged watched three movies, ‘Jarhead’, ‘Derailed’ and ‘To End All Wars’.

Jarhead was great and I really liked the narrative by Anthony Swofford (Jake Gyllenhaal). Jamie Foxx performance as Staff Sgt. Sykes was fantastic. Jarhead has to be credited for its unique portrayal of Gulf War Marines who battled more boredom than enemy combatants. I would recommend this movie to anyone who can bear hearing the word "fuck" and its variants in every single dialogue. I think I heard the word “fuck” about 250 times.

Derailed is a suspense trailer that was supposed to be thrilling. But halfway through the movie I pretty much guessed how it was going to end. It’s a decent movie but not one that I would be willing to fork $9 to watch during the weekend at the cinema. Plus I can’t seem to get the image of King Arthur off my mind everytime I see Clive Owen.

To End All Wars was by far the best movie on the card. This movie made my eyes water towards the end. You could almost feel the suffering of this men and their joy when they were released as P.O.W. I recommend this movie to everyone because it teaches us about the sacrifices suffered by the men involved are not to be trivialized, nor is the trauma the film depicts. One instructing fact was this movie was based on the memoirs of Captain Ernest Gordon.
