Sophie

Hi folks, I now it’s been a while since I posted any render. So here is my new render, Sophie. I know it’s not the most original of names but it’s the best I could come up with.

The sofa is actually a free 3D max model which you can download from evermotion. But I decided to replicate it in Maya to see if I can achieve the same results. The one great thing about 3D is that if you know your basics you can use any 3D application to achieve your final product.

And for this project, I used modo to model the sofa which was later imported into Maya 6, where it was textured and rendered with Mental Ray. The whole process took less than 4 hours. Most of my time was spent texturing the model and setting up the 2 photometric lights.

Although I am a decent modeler, texturing is something that has haunted me ever since I started learning 3D. To make matters worse using Maya to texture was a considerable challenge and being a heavy 3D max user didn’t help the fact either.

But after a little experimentation on my part, I managed to succeed. One word of advice, if you feel you are most comfortable say with 3D max, stick with it. Nowadays almost all the software can achieve the same result, so do not listen to fan boys. And if you want to produce a great looking work, choose a great renderer.

So till my next post ya, its bye from Ganz.

Take my hat off you. You're such a devoted designer. You should be resting after all the army shit every weekday. But, really great time spent, you'll be a very successful man in future.
