Red Leaf Pens
After work on Monday, I went to the shop located at the Woodlands MRT and bought some stationery. Namely 1 notebook, 1 pilot pen and 2 red leaf pens which cost a staggering $7.
The reason I bought the notebook was a little story in itself. I was happily writing my daily dictionary last Saturday when I ran out of ink. So I changed pens and continued my work. But after a while I felt uneasy seeing two distinctly different styles of text in my notebook. I do not know why but I felt an urge to rewrite the whole book, this time promising myself that I will not change pens. So that’s why I bought this new notebook, to rewrite everything.
Ok back to the topic at hand, at first I didn’t seem the oddity of paying $7 mainly because I was listening to my iPod Shuffle playing the Da Vinci’s code audio book. But then I realized that I had paid $2 for two red leaf pens which usually cost $0.80. I wanted to be angry but anger never lead to solutions. I just thought of how shop owners could commit such hideous acts against the working class Singaporeans.
It may sound like I am making a huge fuss over this but I really cannot condole shop owners overcharging people. And if you confront these shop owners on why they are overcharging their customers; they will give you one of three reasons.
Firstly they will say that the rental is high and they need to make their ends meet, secondly they will hush you off and tell you that they don’t really care if you want to buy from them or not. Thirdly you will be hinted on something that sounds like “don’t stick your nose where it doesn’t belong.”
Well I left the store feeling cheated, but the good thing about feelings is that it always changes in an instant. As I walked back home still listening to my iPod Shuffle and I made a promise to myself. I vowed not buy pens from that shop ever again.
One amusing thing to note is that I just wrote 360 plus words about two red leaf pens.
So till my next post ya, its bye from Ganz.
