War of the Worlds
After finishing work today, I went down to the cinema with my brother to watch Steve Spielberg’s War of the Worlds.
Its movies like this that inspires me to keep faith in my dreams. A dream that one day perhaps I can make movies that people will pay their hard earn money to watch.
On to the movie, the destruction caused by the alien invaders in War of the Worlds is awesome. But the real reason why I like this movie was the fact that all this events transpires in front of the main character. It not the typical Independence Day type of nonsense. Steve Spielberg’s War of the Worlds is realistic to an end but does suffer from cinematic clichés moments.
Clichés like all important events or alien attacks seem to happen to Tom Cruise’s character. It like they were out to catch him because they were envious of him getting married to Katie Holmes. But hey its film, we need clichés or no one will bother watching it.
And right before the movie, I caught the new King Kong trailer. And man, got to hand it to Peter Jackson, Kong Rocks.
Just one thing I found truly astounding, was the fact that in some scenes the tripods in War of the Worlds looked so real that I thought they actually made a full scale model of the damn thing and used it to destroy the cities. Man if people can make CGI today look this good, I wonder what else they can procuce in the future.
But I one thing I seem to notice in some movies recently is the polished look of CGI. Sometimes it sticks out like a sore thumb. Even Revenge of the Sith suffers from this polished syndrome. Oh well, its not like anyone else in the world could do a better job, its just that I have developed an eye for such things.
And before I take my leave, I am hearing my friends complaining (I perfer the word whinning) that the ending was abrupt or very anti climatic. But I beg to differ. It's because I assume they were waiting or rather wanting to see a grand finale. The reason why I like the ending was in fact because it didn’t have a final all out battle.
But one problem I still have with the movie was on how it ended. At the end of the movie the 30-second narrative by Morgan Freeman told us the real story of why the Alien invaders died so suddenly. All along we were lead to believe that the aliens had no immunity. But for aliens that had been hatching this plan for a million years it never occurred to them to check out the our atmosphere? But at least it somewhat stayed true to H.G Well’s original ending.
So till my next post ya, its bye from Ganz.
