Kiss from a Rose

One of my favorite songs.

It’s been 10 years since the "Kiss from a Rose" was sung by Seal. But this song has never left my mind.

Seal has one of the greatest voices I have ever heard and everything he sings is pretty much a hit. He one of those rare artist who has an endless depth of musical knowledge. His messages of peace and brotherhood, for all their sincerity, sometimes cross the line between inspiring and overwrought but nonetheless Seal's vocals are untouchable.

"Kiss From A Rose" is a simply stupendous love song, its supple melody, rich orchestral backing and steady build providing the backdrop for one of Seal's most remarkable vocal performances. It's dramatic, evocative, masterful and wholly deserving of its Grammy. This was the song that made me a fan of Seal.

Kiss from a Rose - Seal 1994
There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea.
You became the light on the dark side of me.
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill.

But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and,
The light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,
I might compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grave.
Ooh...,
The more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah.
And now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the grave.

There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.

You remain,
My power, my pleasure, my pain.
Baby, to me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?

But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and the light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,
I might compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grave.
Ooh..., the more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah.

Now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the grave,

I've been kissed by a rose on the grave,
I've been kissed by a rose
...And if I should fall, at all
I've been kissed by a rose

There is so much a man can tell you,
So much he can say.

You remain
My power, my pleasure, my pain.

To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby.

But did you know,
That when it snows,
My eyes become large and,
The light that you shine can be seen.

Baby,
I might compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grave,
Ooh..., the more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah

Now that your rose is in bloom,
A light hits the gloom on the grave.

Yes I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the grave.
Ooh..., the more I get of you
Stranger it feels, yeah.

Now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the grave,

Now that your rose is in bloom.
A light hits the gloom on the grave
