To Look Ahead
Here’s a question I think you should ask yourselves. It’s not a terribly challenging question. It’s just something I find extraordinarily remarkable about the human character.
The question: Why do we bow our heads down when we walk?
Have you not notice people all around us when they walk, they then to look at the ground rather then look ahead?
Sometimes when I am not thinking of anything of any real importance, I like to observe people. Yes, I like to see what you folks do. I have seen some strange mannerisms when some people are left alone and also have observed that we human beings regardless of cultural backgrounds tend to have similar behaviours.
The next time you have a dinner or even lunch by a window, look out and count the number of people who pass you by with their heads bowed down and also look to see how many people actually walk looking ahead. You will find something really amazing.
A vast majority of people will bow their heads when they walk. Well, theoretically there is nothing wrong with it. But I find something quite disturbing about this whole matter.
It is like an act of submission. Where these people are constantly acknowledging that they are enslaved by reality and don’t think much of their personal space. Mostly these are people who don’t think much of themselves. Although they don’t look it, I feel that deep down in their hearts they have lost their reason and will to seek out their dreams and goals. Well I am not implying that I am right but I merely making an observation.
I find people who are more confident about themselves tend to look ahead when the walk. Some of them even in a torrential rainfall, without an umbrella, will stand in the rain, looking ahead instead of shielding their eyes. These are the same people usually when in conservation tend to look at other person’s eyes and only occasionally moving their gaze so that they do not provoke the other party.
Well folks, take it for what you think its worth. I find that many great men and women from all around the world have this one common attribute. They always look ahead. It's like they are looking at the horizon and they know they can reach that horizon. And what happens when these people reach that particular horizon, they see another, which is why these people constantly challenge themselves and go on to do many great things.
So the million dollar question, do I walk with my head down or do l look ahead? Well, I used to bow and not engage in people’s gaze but that was a long time ago. Now I will look at you dead in the eye and refuse to bow my head even in torrential rainfall.
Hey it's a powerful weapon. When people scold you, just look at them and make no expression at all. They sooner rather than later will start to feel uneasy and back away. Hey it works. They might think you as arrogant. But if they are willing to you scold you in front of your friends and family, you might as well pass on as being an arrogant bastard in front of these immature tyrants.
Be whatever you want to be and be confident about it because it really shows. Remember there is no a man or woman alive today who can tell you otherwise. Life is full of uncertainty and we might as well look up to them.
I always felt there is no such thing an ordinary man or woman. There are only extraordinary men and women. It’s just that most of us want to remain unremarkable in fear of uncertainty.
Uncertainty is just a passing cloud. And no cloud can move a mountain. And to become a mountain we must do what all mountains do, to look ahead.
So till my next post ya, its bye from Ganz.
